Description
Prof. Dr. Juan Manuel Munoz-Guijosa is full Professor at the UPM Department of Mechanical Engineering and now serves as UPM vice-rector for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer. After his award-winning PhD he was visiting researcher at MIT and worked five years for Bosch GmbH linked to the automotive industry. His research activities are linked to several fields of Mechanical Engineering, including vibrations theory, composite structures, carbon polymer nanocomposites, microsystem technology and systematic product development. His experience goes beyond a successful research activity, towards a relevant technology transfer impact: he has led more than 20 public and private funded research projects, resulting in 12 patent applications -5 of which are or have been in commercial exploitation by means of three UPM spin-offs- and having published more than 50 journal articles and contributed to more than 50 international conferences in these fields. He has been invited professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Drexel University and Saint-Petersburg mining University. He is very active in the field of project-based learning, having led two teaching innovation projects and participated in other 10, taking active part, among others, in the UBORA Euro-African Open Biomedical Engineering e-platform and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Youth Innovators Competition and Design Bootcamp 2020 on COVID-19. Recently, he has been awarded with the Innovatech technological innovation prize for his proposal of a method for the enhancement of the mechanical properties of graphene epoxy nanocomposites and the UPM price for the best international project.
