Description

Robert (“Boyo” to his friends) is a 77-year-old young timer and a serial entrepreneur. He recently defended a doctorate on the transfer of SMEs in the absence of natural heirs. His thesis centered on filling a little researched gap: how can a “Patriarch Emeritus” achieve an ethically defensible balance between a “Hard” objective (maximizing the selling price of an SME) and a “Soft” one (ensuring the sustainability of the work of a lifetime)? The case study of the transfer of one of Robert’s SMEs illustrates that combining the OBO and LMBO models, two PE investment funds and a “dream team” of “intrapreneurs”, can yield an excellent compromise. The next question consists of how the resulting funds should be redeployed in several types of assets including private equity. Dr Robert Stoll holds an MA in philosophy and economics at Oxford university, an MBA at INSEAD and a DBA at the Business Science Institute and the university of Lyon.
